“Oscar’s Docs” Brings Together Vision and JusticeFreida Lee Mock, Terry Sanders, William T. Cartwright and Charles Bernstein Wil

Beverly Hills, CA (October 28, 2008)— The 1994 Oscar^®-winning documentaries “A Time for Justice” and “Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision” will screen on Monday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood as part of “Oscar’s Docs, Part Four: Academy Award^®-Winning Documentaries 1988–1997.”

The evening will feature a post-screening onstage discussion with producer-director Freida Lee Mock and producer Terry Sanders, both of whom received Oscars^®for the documentary feature “Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision.” The film’s composer Charles Bernstein and editor William T. Cartwright will also participate in the discussion.

“Maya Lin” follows the young artist who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., as she draws attention and controversy with her public creations. This screening will present a new 16mm print.

The evening will also include a screening of the documentary short subject “A Time for Justice,” which tells the story of the American Civil Rights Movement from the perspective of those who fought for the right to vote during the 1950s and 1960s.

“Oscar’s Docs” is a comprehensive screening series of every short subject and feature to win the Academy Award for documentary filmmaking since the category was established in 1941.

The retrospective will feature the best available prints – often newly struck or restored editions from the documentary collection of the Academy Film Archive.

Tickets to each “Oscar’s Docs” screenings are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.

The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood. Free parking is available through the entrance on Homewood Avenue (one block north of Fountain Avenue).
