“We had another amazing Neighborhoods Day,” its main organizer, Luther Keith, said this week, reflecting on the 200-plus events across the city that engaged thousands of participants.

Last Saturday marked the 12th Annual Detroit Neighborhoods Day sponsored and organized by Kresge Detroit Program grantee ARISE Detroit! Keith is the organization’s executive director.

The day included jobs and health fairs, large and small beautification projects, school-supply giveaways, a bicycle giveaway, a demonstration of flower farming, parades, arts festivals and children’s activities. Blue Cross Blue Shield alone fielded 300 volunteers for school cleanups.

Overall, it was an amazing day of work and pride that reflected the resilient spirit of the people and neighborhoods of Detroit,” said Keith.
