13/12/2010 - Eurotunnel posts Channel Tunnel Access Conditions for 2012, year of the London Olympics, on Web
In accordance with European Directives for infrastructure managers, Eurotunnel publishes a network reference document (The Network Statement). This Network Statement provides railway operators with an instant and completely transparent view of the access conditions that will prevail in 2012, the year of the London Olympic Games, in order that they can prepare their transport offerings under optimum conditions.
Produced following extensive consultation with railway businesses (SNCF, Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn, SNCB, Veolia, Railfreight Group, Europorte, etc.), the contiguous railway infrastructure managers (HS1, RFF, Network Rail) and the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC), this document is based on three of Eurotunnel’s principal concerns: the equal, non discriminatory treatment of all railway operators (passenger and freight alike), the reliability and the safety of the infrastructure, the management of an efficient and constant railway traffic between Great Britain and Continental Europe. The Tunnel is operational 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
With regard to access charges, the restructuring completed in 2006/2007 enabled overall charges to be reduced by 30% and by 50% for freight. With the evolution of access charges for travel through the Tunnel since then having been both below inflation and below the increases implemented or forecast by all other infrastructure managers, Eurotunnel is making a significant contribution to the development of the European High Speed Network and to the revival of rail freight.
