Week dedicated to volunteerism runs from May 11-17

05/08/2014 - NORTHBROOK, Ill.

During the Allstate Week of Service, May 11-17, employees and agency owners are putting their hands to work at more than 300 nonprofit organizations. In total, more than 4,000 Allstate volunteers will donate upwards of 14,000 hours of service in communities across the U.S. This year, Allstate affiliated brands including Esurance, Answer Financial, and Encompass will join the movement and host volunteer events.

Allstate will also continue to partner with Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger relief organization, and 60 local food banks across the country to collect food for those struggling with hunger. Last year, Allstate employees donated more than 32,000 pounds of food through collection drives.

"Giving back, no matter how big or small, can make all the difference in people's lives," said Vicky Dinges, senior vice president of corporate responsibility at Allstate. "The thousands of employees who will volunteer know how important it is to serve their communities. I'm proud to be volunteering next week alongside my fellow Allstaters."

The nonprofit organizations where employees and agency owners volunteer during the week are presented with a $500 grant to help support their organizations. In total, more than $100,000 will be awarded on behalf of Allstate employees and agency owners to nonprofit organizations.

Some of this year's Allstate Week of Service volunteer events include:

  • A week long volunteer project at Covenant House in New Orleans to help homeless youth. Volunteers will work with the youth by providing leadership and mentorship trainings. Volunteers will also work throughout the week to paint, clean and repair the facility. For 25 years, Covenant House has been providing a safe haven, assistance and training for homeless youth throughout New Orleans.

  • Multiple teams from Allstate's Corporate Headquarters in Northbrook, Ill. are supporting Feed My Starving Children – a nonprofit humanitarian organization committed to providing food for food to needy children. Volunteers will work together to hand-pack lifesaving meals for starving children around the world.

  • Volunteers in Atlanta will be working with HouseProud Atlanta – a nonprofit that provides no-cost repairs to keep low-income senior and/or disabled homeowners in Atlanta warm, safe and dry. They will be supporting local homeowners by providing high-quality, long-lasting home repairs.

In addition to Allstate Week of Service, the company honors year-round community service with grants to nonprofits. In 2013, The Allstate Foundation supported the volunteerism of employees and agency owners with more than $2 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations. Annually, Allstate employees and agency owners donate more than 200,000 hours of volunteer services to benefit local communities around the country.
