2010 Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade Now Accepting Nominations for Grand Marshal and Parade Theme
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a Protestant Reformed denomination, has hired social media author, speaker, and trainer Dana Cadman as its Communications Manager. In this role,
Livonia, Mich. – February 2nd, 2009 – Mr. Cadman will assess the social media efforts of various ministries and member churches, then create a cohesive social media strategy and guidelines for the entire denomination. He will also have oversight responsibility for all of the print and digital publications created by the Office of the General Assembly (international headquarters).
"The position of Communications Manager is new for us," says Jeff Jeremiah, Stated Clerk of the EPC. "We have moved ahead to staff the position as it is a high priority for us in becoming a missional denomination. We are grateful that the Lord led us to a person who is experienced in the field and who is available and excited about working with us." Missional churches make serving their communities – "being the heart and hands of Christ to the people around them" – one of their highest priorities.
Mr. Cadman brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has written the book, "Web 2.0 for Non-profit Organizations" and is working on the sequel, "Social Media for Christian Churches". He speaks regularly at the Troy Non-Profit Management Conference and the U.P. Nonprofit Conference. This last summer, he helped Nonprofit Enterprise at Work (NEW) train non-profit organizations (NPOs) in social media in preparation for the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan's $1 Million Online Challenge Grant. The grant matched 2-for-1 every dollar donated online.
Mr. Cadman is also very experienced at working with NPOs and churches. He and his wife started ARC of Hope (formerly Cadman Foundation), an adoption assistance foundation, in 2005 to help families afford their international adoptions. Since 2008, they have refocused that mission to helping the 6400 orphans in Michigan's foster care system find permanent, loving homes. Mr. Cadman was also part of the 51-member team that launched Kensington Community Church in 1990. Kensington now has a regular weekly attendance of more than 12,000 people at five locations.
"I am very excited about this opportunity," says Cadman. "In this position, I will be able to combine my love of teaching, my experience in social media and Web technologies, and my passion to help churches spread the Gospel of Jesus. The EPC's basic tenet of giving each congregation freedom within the context of our Essentials of Faith is a very 'Web 2.0ish' philosophy – that puts the EPC ahead of most NPOs I've worked with."
More than 90,000 people attend 275 EPC churches nationwide. The EPC also sponsors more than 40 overseas missionaries. To learn more about the EPC, visit www.EPC.org.
