Hawke’s Bay plays host to the National Cyclocross champs this Sunday August 10, at Roys Hill Reserve. The course will feature flowing wide open sections, with short hill runs, mud sections and fast 4wd tracks.
The hill top location over looks Hawke's Bays local vineyards and Te Mata peak. Weather is looking great for Sunday, with a bit of rainfall during the week hopefully doing enough to soften up the course.
The Open men’s grade will race feature 3 past National champions, Dan Warren, Gary Hall, and current National champion Alex Revell, who has competed in the famous Belgian cyclocross scene for the past 2 winters. Also joining the field is Wellingtonian rider Brendon Sharratt, who has been on dominate form this winter and will be top favorite going into the race.
The Open Woman’s race features previous National Champion Kim Hurst return to try and claim her title she won in Taradale in 2012. She will face stiff competition from local riders Hayley Davis and Natalie Kerwin.
The 3 Masters fields have the biggest numbers with over half the entries. The form riders to watch will be Mike Greaves, Paul Gough, Jonty Ritchie, Ben Knight and local Tony Hooper.
Racing starts from 10am with an Allcomers race, which is for anyone wanting to give Cyclocross a go, followed by 2 free entry Kids races at 10.30.
