5Picture Films begins a vigorous campaign to raise awareness about the lack of a pension and health plan in professional boxing by promoting the book Pugilistica and producing a documentary.

Los Angeles, CA, United States., August 9, 2018 - (PressReleasePoint) -

5Picture Films is in development to produce a documentary based on the book Pugilistica, written by Michael Gerald, in which the subject matter explores the history of boxing, and why there has never been a pension and health plan established to protect a boxer's financial and wellness interest in their later years of life.

Patrick Gasper, one of the Executive Producers of the project, says he was surprised to discover that there wasn't anything in place to assist prizefighters in need of assistance later in life, and hopes that Pugilistica will start an awareness movement. 5Picture Films recently sent a small production crew on a multi-city tour through California, Nevada, New Mexico, Illinois, and Colorado to promote the book, conduct interviews, and visit boxing gyms to gather the opinions of fans, and those working and participating in the sport.

The company expects to start a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the Pugilistica documentary on August 13, 2018, with the hopes of visiting former fighters, trainers, other industry professionals to get their take on the pension and health needs in the sport, and offer community boxing gyms around the country more exposure. The Pugilistica movie will be directed by Michael Gerald, and will be his second feature directorial effort, and the first of five projects he is slated to spearhead for 5Picture Films.
