ARABIAN GULF (NNS) -- USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) hosted a visit from the command master chief (CMDCM) of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. 5th Fleet, June 17-19.

George H.W. Bush welcomed Command Master Chief Scott A. Fleming for a scheduled visit as part of a tour of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG).

During his visit, Fleming visited many of the ship's departments and viewed the ship's daily operations. Fleming also toured the wardrooms, Chiefs Mess and had the chance to speak with many of the crew.

"It is very important for members of the 5th Fleet staff to come out here and see firsthand the operational force in action. We are here to see if we are doing the things we need to be doing as the staff to support the operational assets," said Fleming.

Many Sailors welcomed the chance to speak with Fleming and were grateful for him taking the time to visit them.

"It was an honor having 5th Fleet CMC here, and he definitely gave us a lot of motivation," said Ship's Serviceman 2nd Class Asia Stewart, from Supply department's S-3 division. "With mid-point deployment fever going on and us kind of losing our motivation, he brought us back to reality. He reminded us that we're out here for a reason, and that we have to stay motivated so we don't fall behind of what's expected of us."

Fleming also toured many of the ships departments and was able to view operations on the flight deck. He was also able to speak with members of the Junior Enlisted Association.

"I was impressed by the Sailors, their energy, the motivation and their enthusiasm," said Fleming. "A trip out to one of the ships is always a positive experience, because I get to see that 99 percent of our Sailors are in it for the right reasons. They are all those things that we expect our Sailors to be. It's always impressive to see them do what Sailors do."

Commanded by Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller, GHWB CSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush, Carrier Air Wing 8, Destroyer Squadron 22, guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80).

George H. W. Bush deployed Feb. 15, and is operating in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and support missions as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
