Idox Group (Idox) is proud to announce that its Internet Voting solution was selected by Aberdeen City Council for their 2012 Community Council elections (CCE).

Changes in technology have occurred at an accelerated pace over the past decade. The increasing use of technology has substantially altered the way in which we live our lives, specifically on how information is received and transmitted, and the demand on the world of elections is no different.

Many voters now expect local authorities to offer multiple voting channels to accommodate their hectic lifestyles. In fact, individuals can sometimes miss out on Election Day by failing to vote at designated polling stations. Idox is the leading developer and supplier of software solutions and information services to the elections industry, offering the electorate and local authorities more choice.

Idox's solution allowed Aberdeen City Council's electorate to choose to vote remotely, either online or via telephone at a time and place that was convenient to them. With up to 30 Community Council areas, each one also presented individuals with the options to vote traditionally or to use the internet facilities provided at their local polling stations.

Overall the election was a success and participation increased by 700 percent. Commenting on the results, Lauren Kennedy, Elections Officer for Aberdeen City Council said: "The service delivered by Idox was excellent. As well as the print service, the company provided innovative Internet Voting and e-Counting solutions that made our elections very straightforward.

Turnout was far higher than in previous elections and much of the credit for this must go to Idox. As always Idox's staff members were very easy to work with and they listened and responded to our needs at all times."

Siobhan Donnaghy, Head of Commercial, Idox Elections further commented: "Internet Voting can be implemented alongside traditional voting methods and the CCEs have proven this to be the case. The results demonstrate that a modern approach can easily accommodate electors' busy lifestyles and win over their confidence to vote using modern technology.

We look forward to working with more local authorities who want to deliver more choice to their electorate".
