Academy to Salute Canada’s Short Films in D.C.
Beverly Hills, CA - (October 7, 2008)— Celebrating more than 50 years of Oscar®-nominated and winning short subject films, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film and the Foundation for the National Archives, will present “A Salute to the National Film Board of Canada” (NFB) on Thursday, October 23, at 7 p.m. at the William G. McGowan Theater at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The evening will be hosted by animation critic and historian Charles Solomon with an introduction by Academy President Sid Ganis.
The salute will feature a panel discussion with NFB Chair and Government Film Commissioner Tom Perlmutter, NFB animation producer Marcy Page, and Torill Kove, the Oscar-winning animator of “The Danish Poet.”
Several NFB-produced films, including “Neighbours” (1952), “Walking” (1969), “Bob’s Birthday” (1993), “Ryan” (2004) and “The Danish Poet” (2006), will be screened.
Tickets for the event are free. Reservations are not required; seating is on a first-come, first served basis. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The National Archives Building is located at 700 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; the entrance for special events is on Constitution Ave. (Metro: Archives/Navy Memorial [yellow, green lines]).
