ACC Applauds EPA Stay of Boiler RulesWASHINGTON, D.C. (May 16, 2011)
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 16, 2011) The American Chemistry Council (ACC) today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)s decision to stay its emission standards and regulatory requirements for industrial boilers (Boiler MACT) and solid waste incinerators (CISWI). EPA will stay the rules until thereconsideration processis complete, or a court case is finalized, whichever is earlier. Last month, ACC joined other industry groups infiling a petitionwith EPA requesting a stay of the rules pending reconsideration.
We commend todays decision by EPA, which wisely postpones the date by which businesses must follow these rules until final requirements are clear, saidCal Dooley, President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council. The stay will help ensure that U.S. manufacturers and small businesses do not spend millions, if not billions, to comply with rules that are still under EPA review. As EPA reconsiders portions of the rules, the stay will let these businesses concentrate on innovation, expansion and job growth.
We are also encouraged that EPA is seeking additional information and data as it reconsiders portions of these far-reaching regulations. ACC will continue to be engaged in the regulatory process as we work toward effective, achievable rules. EPA announced today that it will accept additional input from the public, industry, and other stakeholders until July 15, 2011.
