ACC Commends Bipartisan Effort in Senate to Secure Chemical Facilities

ARLINGTON, VA (February 4, 2010) –U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Mark Pryor (D-AR), George Voinovich (R-OH) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA), today introduced legislation to extend the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards for five years.   ACC’s President and CEO, Cal Dooley, released the following statement:

“We commend Senator Collins and support the bipartisan legislation that will reauthorize the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards.  The bill introduced in the Senate will go a long way to ensure that our country continues to benefit from the rigorous chemical security regulations already in place. 

“The legislation recognizes, and more importantly supports, the significant effort already underway to safeguard chemical facilities.  Under CFATS thousands of facilities across the country are taking action to secure their site against a potential terrorist attack.

“ACC and our members support the efforts of Senators Collins, Landrieu, Pryor and Voinovich and the other members of the Senate Homeland Security Committee on chemical security legislation that will help us protect our facilities, our employees, the communities in which we operate, and the vital products we supply everyday to the nation.”
