ACCCE Statement Regarding the Senate Vote on the Murkowski Disapproval Resolution
June 10, 2010
Today, the U.S. Senate failed to pass a disapproval resolution introduced by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) that would restrict the EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions in advance of comprehensive climate legislation. In reaction to that vote, American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity President and CEO Steve Miller released the following statement: “Today’s vote demonstrated there is significant bipartisan opposition to EPA regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act and support for allowing Congress to address climate change through federal legislation. The way the federal government proceeds will touch every American’s life, from their electricity bills to the economy as a whole. That’s why it’s so important that our nation take the necessary time to address the challenge of climate change in a thoughtful manner. We commend Senator Murkowski for introducing the resolution and other senators who supported its passage.
“ACCCE has consistently supported a federal legislative approach as the best means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while preserving jobs and growing the economy, enhancing energy security and keeping electricity affordable for Americans.
“ACCCE will continue to support efforts to prevent piecemeal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions and allow Congress to enact a more effective approach to address climate change.
