AccuWeather Global Weather Center - February 9, 2018 - The rare snowstorm which hit northern France and brought significant impacts to Paris, including the shut down of much of the city, was a surprise for many residents and businesses. Consumers and enterprises using AccuWeather however, knew as early as Sunday, February 4th that snow accumulations would cause issues, including packed snow and slippery roads, significant flight delays, and business closures.

"On Sunday we were already accurately predicting the snowfall for Tuesday, February 6th and Wednesday, 7th. This included specific warnings of dangerous travel through Wednesday as well as significant flight delays and business closures, while other weather providers predicted it would be dry," said Brian Lavery, Managing Director, Europe, AccuWeather, Inc. "AccuWeather called for snow to continue on Wednesday and delivered accurate snow totals, in contradiction to other public and private weather services." posted a weather story February 4th, "Widespread Snow to Slow Travel in Northern, Central France," which accurately predicted "heavy, wet snow across northern and central France early this week will lead to travel delays, potential power cuts, and business closures." Included in the story were additional impact statements, including predictions of difficult travel conditions and potential airport closures as well as rail and bus service delays, that proved to be accurate.

The Global Hazard™ forecast, available to AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions™ clients, also correctly outlined threats from the storm, calling for several inches of snow and listing specific impact details for what AccuWeather was predicting as a "rare and unusual winter storm."

"Although storms like this are a rare occurrence, it is critical for people to continue to have access to the most accurate forecasts to ensure their own safety," concluded Lavery.
