Cricket ACT officially launched the 2017 McDonalds ACT Premier Season on Tuesday at Manuka Oval ahead of the Konica Minolta T20 Regional Cup this weekend.

CEO Cameron French believes the 2017/18 season is shaping up to be a very exciting year, with a recent acknowledgement from Cricket Australia hopefully a sign of good things to come.

"It is a really significant year this year for our competition," French said.

"This is the first time that Cricket Australia has recognised the ACT competition as premier cricket. This is a great reward for our players, volunteers and administrators who have done a heap of work over a long period of time.

The Men's Premier season starts with the Konica Minolta T20 Regional Cup this weekend on Saturday and Sunday with the finals to be played at Manuka Oval on October 22.

Women's action will commence on October 15 with six teams entered for first time to compete for the Glenda Hall T20 shield.

"I am delighted to say that Gininderra will enter a team for the first time," French said

"We are looking to grow that competition significantly over the next few years."

"Thank you to all of the administrators and volunteers who have done a heap of work over the off-season to get everything ready and we are looking forward to a great summer of cricket"
