A new video news story from American Forces Network Afghanistan about the Defense Logistics Agency selling non-military used goods to an Afghan company highlights the benefits of the program.

DLA representatives met in late June with a commercial Afghan company in Bagram, Afghanistan, to conduct the first sale of useable non-military vehicles, appliances and furniture no longer needed by the U.S. government. DLA is responsible for the disposition of excess property received from the military services.

The sale of the items, known as “white goods,” will provide regional economic stimulus to the Afghan economy and help the U.S. government avoid property disposal costs usually associated with the scrapping process.

The video explains how the program contributes to economic growth in Afghanistan.

“DLA personnel met with a local commercial Afghan company to conduct the sale of these items, which will provide regional economic stimulus to the Afghan economy and help the U.S. government avoid property disposal costs usually associate with the scrapping process,” AFN reporter Army Sgt. Rodney Roldan says in the video.

“Progress has already been seen in Afghanistan with an increase in the number of roads being built, trade and commerce, and the number of children attending schools,” he continued. “With the purchase of equipment sold at a white goods sale, Afghan contractors and business owners can continue to build schools and public works projects, ultimately contributing to the overall growth of the Afghan economy.”
