AHIP Statement on More Affordable Prescription Drug Coverage for Seniors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 4, 2011
Taxpayers continue to save billions of dollars due to lower Part D costs
Washington, D.C.– America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) President and CEO Karen Ignagni released the following statement today in reaction to the announcement by CMS that Medicare Part D premiums for 2012 have declined slightly from 2011:
“Medicare beneficiaries will have more affordable prescription drug coverage next year as a result of vigorous competition in the Part D program and Medicare drug plans’ efforts to encourage seniors to choose the most affordable medicines. Medicare drug plans have a proven track record of providing innovative, affordable prescription drug benefits that meet the unique needs of seniors in the Part D program. Taxpayers are also saving billions of dollars as the total cost of the program continues to be far below original projections.”
