Brampton, Ontario, Canada., January 24, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - Mirus International’s Director of Sales, Albert Archambault, will demonstrate smart methods to prevent electrical harmonics problems in buildings at the 2013 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Dallas Texas.  Mr. Archambault will cover two case studies demonstrating how cooling system capacity was limited by harmonic current distortion and the steps they took to overcome it. Attendees will learn which retrofitted mitigation method was successful and brought the facilities into compliance with IEEE 519 guidelines.

Mr. Archambault‘s case studies will be covered within the large building design track, Smart Methods to Prevent Electrical Harmonics Problems in Buildings.  This session focuses on cost avoidance without jeopardizing electrical performance.  Specifying engineers will gain assurance for their variable speed drive selections in new construction, while facilities engineers will benefit from hearing about the most suitable remedies in retrofit situations.  Mr. Archambault explains, “The session objective is to present solutions for harmonic distortion related to variable frequency drives in the commercial HVAC/R building environment.   Discussions will include application of IEEE Std 519, when and where to use harmonic mitigation devices and how to estimate their economic impact.”

ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a building technology society focused on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability.  Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE’s mission is to shape tomorrow’s built environment today.  The ASHRAE Learning Institute will offer 19 seminars and courses during their 2013 Winter Conference.  Wade Conlan, of U&S Services Inc. and an ASHRAE member who serves as chair of the technical program for the Conference, said. “The Conference seeks to draw on the expertise from those markets to present design, construction and operational case studies and generally accepted practices to the Conference attendees.”

Held at the Dallas Convention Centre and the Sheraton Conference Centre, the seminars and courses take place starting Sunday January 27 through to Wednesday January 30.   For more information regarding the 2013ASHRAE Winter Conference visits https://www.ashrae.org/membership--conferences/conferences/dallas-conference.
