All Aboard! Tourism Tech Event Stopping Off At Ulster Transport Museum

A tech event aimed at the booming Tourism sector in Northern Ireland is stopping off in Belfast this November.

The fourth annual Digital DNA Tourism event, in partnership Tourism Northern Ireland, is heading to the Ulster Transport Museum on Monday 20 November. This first-class event is bringing world-class industry and tech moguls to Northern Ireland to talk all things digital with the hospitality, travel and leisure sectors – a group of industries that are seeing substantial interest and growth in Northern Ireland.

Supported by a range of companies including The Digital Garage from Google and Eir Business NI, this event showcases the importance of technology within the tourism industry and allows accommodation providers, restaurants, bars, cafés & visitor attractions to get relevant, tailored advice for their sector.
Digital DNA Tourism is a creation of Digital DNA, who recently announced a new international strategy and recruitment drive for 2017/18. Digital DNA Tourism in partnership with Tourism NI is the latest in a series of digital events from the Digital DNA team, who recently brought over 2,000 delegates to St George’s Market for the annual Digital DNA business and technology event back in June this year.

Simon Bailie, Digital DNA’s Commercial Director said: “This event has grown year on year with the support of Tourism NI and we’re seeing some incredible statistics coming out of Northern Ireland in relation to the growth of the tourism sector here. Between April 2016 and March 2017, over £862m was spent by local and international visitors in Northern Ireland, an incredible 11% increase from 2015 (DfE, 2016). Alongside this growth in spending, we’ve seen considerable investment in the hotels sector with a number of flagship hotels opening across Northern Ireland, most recently the iconic Titanic Hotel in Belfast.

“With the advent of Brexit and the drop in value of the pound sterling, we’re seeing a considerable increase in interest from international visitors due to the attractive value of visiting Northern Ireland. With that, comes a huge opportunity for the tourism, hospitality and leisure industry here to capture that interest by honing their digital skills and reaching this global audience from right here in Northern Ireland.”

Tourism NI Chief Executive John McGrillen, commented; “With record 4.6 million visitors generating over £850 million for the local economy, 2016 was a strong year for tourism in Northern Ireland. If we are to maintain momentum and deliver continued growth, our tourism industry must be internationally competitive. Therefore, skills detailed at Digital DNA Tourism in social media marketing, video content and digital tools to enhance efficiency and promotion are essential to capitalise on recent trends in visitors’ use of technology to discover, plan and share their travel experiences.”
