With all its services still running Lingtastic announced staff reductions and closure deadline of September 30th.

Lingtastic.com which successfully finished its live beta in July has announced that it will be operating on a skeleton staff for the next two months while it seeks further investment. Even though Lingtastic.com has successfully reduced the cost of live language interpreters in a 12 billion industry by up to 90% as was their aim they lost a major investor due to the credit crunch in the US. Although Lingtastic's technology and service has been incredibly successful without further investment or partnerships they are unable to build a large enough customer base to continue. In three months over 3,000 applicants have applied to work on pay for work basis for Lingtastic with very limited advertising in the interpreter community.

Lingtastic.com already has:
>Allowed customers to finally choose the quality of interpreters they need from graded and vetted interpreters and have them compete for the customer's business thereby reducing costs by as much as 90% to the customer
>Allowed Interpreters to set their own schedule and pricing
>Had over 3,000 applications worldwide representing 55 different languages to be listed on its service with an exceptional and an enthusiastic backing form the interpreter community
>Interpreters are available using telecom (cell phone or landlines) or by computer (Google Talk and Skype) free of telecom charges. Jajah was about to be released
>Email translation with prepaid translation of emails for others to reply to you
>Transparent SMS translation both from the web or web based cell phone
>Access to our new SMS service over the new mobile.lingtastic.com
>Designed a massively scalable architecture where workers PC’s power the service
>Filed patents for its unique and competitive business structure
>Kept monthly operating costs below 16K
>Launched a Facebook application called “Global Greeting Cards” that allows parties to send cards in foreign languages

Lingtastic.com has been approached by a number of interested parties but no single entity with the necessary vision or strategic leverage has been found yet to grow the business to its potential.

Chas Watkins Founder of Lingtastic said “I am most surprised that companies such as Expedia, Orbitz and others have not seen the potential behind the service. A service that would be of tremendous benefit for their customer base. There are so many reasons a traveler in a foreign country would pay around a dollar for 5 minutes of a live interpreter on a cell phone.”
