ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sara Calzada of Central Baptist (Ark.) and Laurie Frew of Columbia (Mo.) were named AMC Women's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week respectively, the conference office announced on Monday. The duo was selected based on their performances Sept. 25 – Oct. 1.

The next AMC Players of the Week will be announced on Oct. 9.

AMC Defensive Player of the Week
Sara Calzada, Central Baptist (Ark.)
Fr., GK, Arlington, Texas

  • Made 18 saves in the two games for the Mustangs.
  • Recorded 13 stops in the game against Lyon and helped Central Baptist to tie Stephens by saving five shots.
  • Currently on a 155 minute streak without allowing a goal.
  • Leads the AMC and is second in the NAIA with 134 total saves.
  • This is her second career AMC Defensive Player of the Week award.

AMC Offensive Player of the Week
Laurie Frew, Columbia (Mo.)
Sr., F., Columbia, Mo.

  • Had five goals and one assist for 11 points on the week.
  • Helped the Cougars to 8-0 and 6-0 wins.
  • Leads the AMC in points per game (3.5), points (39), assists (7), game winning goals per game (0.4) and game winning goals (5).
  • Leads the NAIA in total game winning goals (5), ranks second in total points (39), ranks third in total goals (16), ranks fifth in game winning goals per game (0.4), ranks seventh in goals per game (1.4), total assists (7) and points per game (3.5), ranks 16th in shots per game (5.3) and shots on goal per game (3.2) and ranks 26th in assists per game (0.6).
  • This is her fifth career AMC Offensive Player of the Week and second this season.

Other Notable Performances:  

  • Gerica Curry, Stephens (Mo.): Made 10 saves in 149 minutes for the Stars, including a double overtime shutout over Central Baptist.
  • Amy Roskell, Park (Mo.): Made one save in the Pirates win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.).
  • Emma Chatterton, Park (Mo.): Scored four goals and added two assists in the Pirates 12-0 win.
  • Victoria Sample, Harris-Stowe State (Mo.): Score two goals in the Hornets 5-0 victory.
  • Joyce Barbosa, Lyon (Ark.): scored five goals and two assists for 12 points in the Scots two wins.
  • Samantha Clymer, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.): Had the Lions lone goal in the 1-0 win over Missouri Baptist.
