March 1, 2010, Columbus, GA
– Three Synovus (NYSE: SNV) affiliated banks were nationally recognized for their contributions to the community at the American Bankers Association (ABA) National Conference for Community Bankers in Hollywood, Florida. Coastal Bank and Trust of Florida, based in Pensacola, won for its efforts in the Habitat for Humanity category. Also recognized with a Certificate of Recognition was Bank of Coweta (Newnan, Georgia) for their entry in the Fundraising category, and Bank of North Georgia (Alpharetta) for their volunteer work in the Revitalizing Your Community category.
“We are honored that our banks received these awards which represent the commitment our team members have for contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in the communities where we live and work,” said Richard Anthony, Chairman and CEO of Synovus.
Coastal Bank and Trust’s partnership with Pensacola Habitat for Humanity started in 1987. Habitat now builds from 50 to 70 homes per year, with more than 650 homes completed, and is recognized as one of the most productive Habitat organizations in the country.
Bank of Coweta was recognized for the efforts of its Combined Charities program, which raised more than $8,000 in 2009. Bank of North Georgia received their Certificate of Recognition for collecting 2,861 jars of peanut butter and jelly for local food banks during their annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive.
The ABA Community Bank Awards program was established in 2005 to recognize community banks’ outstanding charitable achievements. The selection committee recognized seven banks as winners from 100 entries, based on innovation, creativity and effectiveness of the bank’s approach to making a difference in the community. Entries were judged in seven categories: Helping Achieve Homeownership, Encouraging Volunteerism, Fundraising for Foundations and Local Groups, Improving Financial Literacy, Reaching Out to the Underserved, Building with Habitat for Humanity and Revitalizing Your Community.
