NORCROSS, GEORGIA- American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leader in BIOS and computing innovations, is pleased to announce the release of Aptio® core 4.6.5.1, the latest version of its acclaimed UEFI BIOS firmware. Most importantly, Aptio 4.6.5.1 adds support for the latest UEFI specifications, UEFI 2.3.1 and PI 1.2, making the latest features of the UEFI specification, such as Secure Boot for enhanced platform security, available to manufacturers.
Support for the latest UEFI specifications also means that Aptio 4.6.5.1 is fully ready to support Microsoft Windows® 8 and the key security and pre-boot optimizations anticipated in the next-generation version of the operating system. Both UEFI Secure Boot and UEFI-only boot mode are advanced features in Microsoft Windows® 8 and represent key milestones in the evolution of Aptio 4.6.5.1.
S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends, commented that "AMI is delighted to announce our early adoption of this critical UEFI specification. Providing early code availability of UEFI 2.3.1 underscores our commitment to empowering our customers with the latest developments in BIOS and pre-boot functionality, rapid development capabilities and close cooperation with Microsoft on their upcoming designs."
Aptio is built around Visual eBIOS (VeB), the innovative BIOS development environment introduced by AMI in 2001. VeB continues to simplify BIOS development worldwide by removing barriers normally associated with BIOS development in the command line environment. Aptio builds on that experience, providing next-generation BIOS firmware leveraging Unified EFI (UEFI) standards for extended pre-boot functionality.
AMI is currently porting multiple chipset reference platforms (CRB) from leading manufacturers to support UEFI 2.3.1 using Aptio core 4.6.5.1.
