Amyris's Farnesene Production Unit would be First RSB-Certified Plant in Brazil

The RSB Services Foundation, the implementing entity of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), a global sustainability standard and certification system for biofuels and biomaterials production, is pleased to announce that Amyris, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMRS), has applied for RSB certification. Amyris, a leading renewable chemicals and fuels company, is one of the first commercial-scale second-generation biochemical producers, closely working with Total on renewable fuels.

RSB's planned sustainability certification will cover Amyris's renewable farnesene produced from Brazilian sugarcane feedstock at Amyris's plant in Brotas, São Paulo state. Farnesene is a liquid, long-chain, branched renewable hydrocarbon that serves an alternative to fossil fuel-derived, including sulfur-free diesel, renewable jet fuel, emollients, fragrance oils, and automotive lubricants.

"By committing to RSB certification, Amyris has once again positioned itself as an industry leader - this time by recognizing the importance of strong, credible sustainability standards in the biochemical industry. We are very impressed with Amyris's commitment to sustainability and delighted for them to be the first company to apply for RSB certification in Brazil," said Peter Ryus, RSB Services' CEO.

"Amyris is committed to delivering renewable products to enable a sustainable future, from our renewable diesel and jet fuel to our cosmetic emollient squalane. Starting with our successful project on Artemisinin, an anti-malarial drug precursor, we seek to make a positive impact on both our local communities and the planet," said Zanna McFerson, Chief Business Officer. "We look forward to seeking RSB's certification for our first industrial plant producing farnesene in Brazil and to demonstrating to our various stakeholders that Amyris can meet the most rigorous sustainability standards."

"We are pleased that Amyris is applying for RSB certification. Total and Amyris share a strong commitment to supplying sustainable fuels to their customers without compromising on performance. Our sustainability efforts are particularly important for our jointly-developed renewable jet fuel, which we plan to market in the coming year," said Philippe Marchand, Total New Energies's Director of Biotechnology.

About RSB

The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) has developed a global sustainability standard and certification system for biomaterials production. The RSB standard represents a global consensus of over 100 organizations including farmers, refiners, regulators and NGOs, and was designed to ensure the sustainability of biomaterials production while streamlining compliance for industry. RSB-certified entities demonstrate that their operations comply with safeguards, including the protection of natural or rare ecosystems, food security, and respect for human rights to land, water and decent work conditions, and the management of water resources. RSB is a full member of the ISEAL Alliance. More information can be found at
