APCO APPLAUDS LIEBERMAN AND MCCAIN

July 21, 2010, Washington, DC- The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today praised Senators Joe Lieberman (I - Conn.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and John McCain (R - Ariz.), former chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, for their bold introduction of bi-partisan legislation, as a companion to H.R. 5081, which directs the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to allocate the D Block to public safety. Senators Lieberman and McCain's legislation also authorizes the funding to build and maintain a nationwide interoperable public safety broadband network.

"Chairman Lieberman and Senator McCain are long-time supporters of public safety and we are, once again, immensely indebted to them for their steadfast leadership in moving difficult issues forward," APCO International President Richard Mirgon said. "Any success from this point forward will be a direct result of their actions today."
