Apollo Plans Rs 150 Cr Hospital in Kerala
Apollo Hospitals, the country’s biggest healthcare chain, is planning to set up a hospital in Kerala with an investment of around Rs 150 crore, said chairman Pratap C Reddy.

“We are in discussion with people related to Le Meridian Hotel, Kochi, for setting up a hospital on their land,” Reddy said after announcing the launch of an MRI-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) solution from Philips Healthcare for uterin fibroids treatment, in Chennai.
He said that the talks were in primary stage and the group expected to open a 150-bed hospital, which may be upgraded to 300 beds.
The group has also applied for regulatory approvals for some land to construct a hospital in north Chennai, which would have around 500 beds, involving an investment of Rs 200 crore. “Work on the hospital will be completed within 30 months once the approvals are in place,” he added.
The group is also awaiting an inspection by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to be over so as to start operations at its medical college in Hyderabad. The MCI has to approve the curriculum and plans are to start with 100 seats, which would later be expanded to 150 seats.
The group is planning to install Philips Healthcare's HIFU solutions, which costs around Rs 5 crore each, in four of its hospitals in near future. It has already set up four HIFUs in various hospitals.MRI-guided HIFU offers a non-invasive alternative to the traditional treatment for uterine fibroids in women, by combining MRI and HIFU.
