Apurva Shah, Group Managing Director, Veeda has been selected as the new chairman of The Association of Indian Clincial Research Organisations (ACRO)

In January 2010, the Second Executive Council has been elected for the next 2 years. Our mission is to make ACRO an apex and active body for the Clinical Research industry in India.

We have outlined various initiatives which we plan to implement during the course of our tenure below:

Increase membership by two-fold
We envision ACRO becoming the apex body for the Clinical Research industry in India, and hence we would like to include all stakeholders of our industry to participate such as labs, couriers, training institutes etc. so that we can address any issues faced by the industry and work out amicable solutions.

Best Practices document
This document will be drafted by us in consultation with representatives from the DCGI’s office and will help in standardizing the various documents which are submitted to DCGI, thereby expediting the approval process. We will also have regular interactions with the DCGI moving forward so that we can work together in promoting Clinical Research in India.

Training courses
Regular training programs will be conducted through ACRO by veterans in clinical research to increase awareness levels and knowledge of the Indian Clinical Research industry.

Annual event for regulatory issues
For bridging the gap between the Clinical Research industry and the DCGI, we have discussed his participation in an Annual Regulatory Workshop, and have received his tentative approval. This event would be ACROs showcase event and we will share further details with you with regards to the same.

ACRO Website
The existing website, www.acroindia.net has been revamped and we have also created a new website, www.acroindia.org, which will be the permanent web address for ACRO. The website has links to all member sites and a common message board for posting updates and classifieds for our industry.
Apart from the above, the Executive Council will meet on a monthly basis to ensure that the above initiatives are implemented effectively.

I hope that you appreciate the initiatives that are being taken by our team and I look forward to hearing from you on any issues you may be facing or any suggestions on how we can make ACRO a force to be reckoned with, and how we can further establish India as a hub for Clinical Research.
