Arapahoe Basin Beacon Bowl & Après Ski Party
Arapahoe Basin, CO – February 4, 2012 Arapahoe Basin will be hosting the tenth annual Beacon Bowl and après ski party Saturday, February 11, 2012. The event will benefit the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
The Beacon Bowl is an event developed by A-Basin’s ski patrol to teach and test skills for the backcountry. Patrol will start the day at 9:15 a.m. with the Beacon Bowl competition. This event is an avalanche transceiver competition designed for both recreational and professional users.
Free beacon clinics with A-Basin ski patrol and Back Country Access will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. An avalanche dog and snow pit demonstration will follow at 1:15 p.m. The competition, clinics and demonstrations will take place on mountain at the base of the Lenawee Mountain lift.
A $25 registration fee for the Beacon Bowl competition will be donated to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) and will include a raffle ticket, a beverage and a slice of pizza at the après ski party. Registration will take place in the A-Frame beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Incredible prizes from Spyder will be awarded to the top finishers of the Beacon Bowl. A raffle, silent auction and live auction will be held for lift tickets, ski passes, Avalanche hockey tickets, concert tickets, a New Belgium cruiser bike, snow cat tour for two and more.
The après ski party and live auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. on the first floor of the A-Frame sponsored by New Belgium Brewery. Pizza and beer sales will also be donated to the CAIC.
For additional participation information please contact A-Basin at 888-ARAPAHOE or visitwww.arapahoebasin.com/events.
The purpose of the CAIC is to minimize the economic and human impact of snow avalanches on recreation, tourism, commerce, industry and the citizens of Colorado. Since 1950 avalanches have killed more people in Colorado than any other natural hazard. In the United States, Colorado accounts for one-third of all avalanche deaths. With a staff of 15 avalanche professionals, they achieve their purpose through a dual mission of forecasting and public education. http://avalanche.state.co.us/
