ARRIS Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Tom Cloonan Elevated to IEEE Fellow

ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS) announces with pride that its Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Tom Cloonan, has been elevated to the rank of Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), singled out for his leadership in the development of Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS).

Recognizing the achievements of its members is an important part of the mission of the IEEE. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for one of the Institute’s most prestigious honors. Dr. Cloonan will become an IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2010.“I am truly honored to be receiving this prestigious appointment to the IEEE Fellow level,” said Dr. Cloonan. “It is a privilege to be able to work with great people in a company like ARRIS and in an industry like the Cable Industry, where innovation is the norm.”

As ARRIS CSO, Dr. Cloonan is involved in the architecture and planning of next-generation CMTS/EQAM systems, as well as providing company-wide guidance for many different cross-business unit programs being carried out within ARRIS. Dr. Cloonan joined ARRIS in 2001, when the company acquired Cadant®, Inc. where he was Architect and CTO responsible for designing and developing networking systems and leading development of the C4® CMTS product line. Prior to his work at Cadant, Dr. Cloonan was a Technical Manager and Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories in Naperville, IL. Before that, Dr. Cloonan was Architect, ASIC Designer and Project Leader at Lucent Technologies.

Dr. Cloonan holds more than 20 U.S. patents and has written more than 80 articles for technical publications and conferences. He received his Ph.D. from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, his MSEE from Purdue University and his BSEE from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
