Asian Heart Institute Helps Mumbai Run Safe at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012

Asian Heart Institute, recognized as India's Best Private Cardiac Hospital (two separate All India survey's by CNBC & The WEEK) is also the 'Official Medical Partner of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon'since its inception. Each year, more than 75 of AHI's cardiac patients run the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon & show the world that heart disease can't deter them from living a normal life. This year one of the patient who has undergone a bypass surgery in 2009 will be running the 42 kms Full Marathon, in addition to 15 patients running the 21 km Half Marathon & 70 patientsrunning the 6 km Dream Run.

These patients have been following a rigorous training schedule with Dr. Aashish Contractor, Head of Dept.-Preventive Cardiology & Cardiac Rehab, AHI.

Dr. Contractor further added, "Often people feel that life ends with heart disease, but these Bravehearts show that life actually begins fresh after heart disease."

AHI has been providing medical aid and helping Mumbai run safe since the last nine years. In order to achieve this, AHI sets up 10 medical stations along the route for any first aid required; 2 Base camps at the start/finish - equipped to handle all emergencies; deploys10 Ambulances with a doctor and nurse and 350 volunteers including doctors, nurses, paramedical & support staff are on duty. Since last year, the team also has6 medics on motorbikes to patrol every part of the course, to pick up injured runners even sooner.
