Astrata Manager Named Chairman of Telematics Group

The primary focus of the Telematics Group is to promote the evolution of a business environment for Telematics, in both the UK and Europe, which encourages mass up-take of all applications across all current and potential markets.

Intellect*, which established the new Group, is the UK trade association for the technology industry.The Telematics Group is a collective body of companies that have significant (but not necessarily exclusive) interests in the design, manufacture and/or retail of equipment and/or software necessary to operate an in-car information, entertainment or communication service that primarily relies on a wireless communications link. 

The Group’s constituency includes the communications network operators on whom telematics solutions providers depend to operate their services. This definition and scope does not preclude the Group discussing and taking actions related to equipment installed in a car thatdoes not require a wireless link to function.  Such equipment could include In-Car Entertainment (ICE) applications and data recorders that monitor vehicle/driver behavior for later download.  

Commenting on his appointment, Mike said: “ I am delighted to take up the position of Chairman of this new forum for telematics in the UK and Europe. I am very optimistic about the contribution it can make and look forward to working with members in establishing the new Group.”
