L’Anse, Mich.--Dec. 9, 2013--The Plum Creek Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to Aura Hall Association. The grant will help fund the cost of bleachers, picnic tables and fencing for the Baraga County baseball diamond and fairground.

According to Glenda Hiltunen, president of the association, the new seating will accommodate the growing number of people interested in taking part in community activities, while the fencing will allow local youth and adults the chance to participate in league play.

“During the past five years, Baraga County Little League participation has doubled in size. Unfortunately, without proper fencing, the current baseball diamond can only be used as a practice field,” said Hiltunen. “Thanks to the help of the Plum Creek Foundation, we can provide this necessary equipment and support our community’s sporting events. Additionally, by providing better seating, we can hold tournaments and offer the opportunity for everyone to come and enjoy our facility.”

The assembly, installation and ongoing maintenance for the baseball diamond improvements will come from volunteers from the Aura Plum Creek men’s softball team who, according to Hiltunen, have dedicated much time and effort to help sustain the field.

The mission of the Aura Hall Association is to support and promote performing arts, youth and adult athleticism, and community gatherings for Baraga County and surrounding areas.
