Boston MA March 29th: Saturday, March 27th, David Ira Rottenberg made a special appearance at Barnes & Noble, Prudential Center as part of a fundraiser for the Boston Ballet. Activities included a book reading of Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig and of Boston Ballet’s Coppélia storybook, a mini-dance class, and an opportunity to meet-and-greet a costumed dancer.

Boston Ballet begins its spring season with the company premiere of Coppélia, one of the greatest comic ballets of all time. This charming and sentimental tale revolves around the life-size dancing doll created by Doctor Coppélius who becomes the source of love troubles for a village couple, Swanilda and Frantz. The ballet’s defining section is a village wedding scene and a monumental grand finale which will include 20 children from the Boston Ballet School.

David Ira Rottenberg, the author of Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig was on hand at the Barnes & Noble to read his children’s book and answer questions and sign copies.

Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig tells the tale of two friends, Gwendolyn and Omar, who have big dreams. Gwendolyn longs to dance ballet, and Omar wants to join the football team. There is just one problem— they’re both pigs! For any adult or child who wishes to see and learn about ballet, as well as meet real ballerinas and a children story author, the Barnes & Noble event is free and tickets are not necessary. Be sure to bring your cameras!

Mr. Rottenberg is a Natick, MA resident who has written for such publications as Boston Magazine and the Boston Globe. Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig is his first children’s book.

Barnes & Noble hosted the event and donated to the Boston Ballet a percentage of every sale made by customers with special Book Fair vouchers.

Coppélia will take the stage at The Boston Opera House April 8-18, 2010.
