Fully Featured 2.5A and 4A Gate Drive Optocouplers Significantly Reduce System Costs and Board Space While Improving Overall Power Efficiency and Reliability

SAN JOSE, Calif., and SINGAPORE,&nbsp February 18, 2014

Avago Technologies (NASDAQ: AVGO), a leading supplier of analog interface components for wireless, wireline, and industrial applications, today announced two new highly-integrated smart gate drive optocoupler devices, the ACPL-336J and ACPL-337J. The ACPL-336J and ACPL-337J have a 2.5A and a 4A rail-to-rail output, respectively, capable of driving high power MOSFET or IGBT directly. The new devices feature rail-to-rail output with high current, integrated LED driver, active Miller clamp, high DESAT blanking current source, and Under Voltage Lock-Out (ULVO) feedback control circuit, providing a complete cost-effective gate drive solution for motor control and power inverter applications.

“With increased complexity in gate drive design to meet high power and efficiency requirements of modern applications, customers who have been using Avago’s market-proven HCPL-316J device have demanded a higher level of on-chip integration of key gate drive functional blocks,” said Kheng-Jam Lee, marketing director of Avago’s Isolation Products Division. “The new APCL-336J and ACPL-337J devices not only reduce the number of external components needed for gate driving, but also set a new standard for compact gate drive optocoupler solutions for motor drives and inverters.

ACPL-336J/ACPL-337J Product Highlights

  • Rail-to-rail output with high current eliminating output buffer stage and improving power efficiency.
  • Integrated LED driver, active Miller clamp and high DESAT blanking current source reducing system costs and board space.
  • ntegrated short circuit protection and FAULT & UVLO feedback control circuit improving system reliability for driving and protecting IGBT.
  • High reinforced insulation voltage of VIORM=1414VPEAK for reliable fail-safe protection in high voltage applications.
  • Wide creepage and clearance of 8.3 mm meeting stringent system level safety regulation.
  • 50kV/µs typical high CMR preventing erroneous drive in noisy environment.
  • Safety approval from CSA, UL and IEC enabling fast system level safety clearance and time to market.

Pricing and Availability

The ACPL-336J and ACPL-337J are priced starting at $3.50 and $3.65, respectively, each in 10,000 piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are available now through the Avago direct sales channel and via worldwide distribution partners.
