As part of Homecoming 2009, Ayr College will this week host ‘A Supper with Rabbie Burns’ uniting students and staff from Ayrshire Colleges and Universities for an evening of celebratory events.

Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning Fiona Hyslop MSP, and former First Minister Rt Hon. Henry McLeish will be in attendance along with representatives from Kilmarnock College, James Watt College, the University of the West of Scotland and the Scottish Agricultural College. Key industry partners, voluntary groups and representatives from the public sector will also be in attendance.

Fiona Hyslop MSP said: “Robert Burns has had a long and lasting influence over Scotland’s culture and heritage, one which goes far beyond our shores. I’m therefore delighted to come back to my home town of Ayr and to be in Ayrshire, where the Bard was born and lived most of his days, to celebrate his life and works which have so successfully stood the test of time

“I’m also delighted that Ayrshire’s colleges, universities and their staff and students are getting involved in Homecoming 2009, which promises to be one of the biggest celebrations ever of Scottish culture, heritage and innovation. I hope Homecoming inspires more Scots at home and abroad to learn about our great nation and its history as we continue our efforts to create a smarter Scotland.”

Drama and Music students and staff from Ayr College will provide entertainment for the evening while students and staff from the hospitality department will prepare the four course meal.

Ayr College Principal, Diane Rawlinson, said: “The supper is a great opportunity for our performing arts students and hospitality students to gain experience and showcase their talents. As Robert Burns’ roots lie in Ayrshire, we are looking forward to celebrating his life with our fellow Ayrshire education institutions.”
