Xenia, Ohio, USA – 4 December 2013 – Visualization pioneer Barco announced that its CD-2260 collimated display system developed for a US Navy MH-60S Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) and integrated by prime contractor CAE USA has now been in-service since earlier this year on an MH-60S OFT located at the Naval Air Station North Island near San Diego, California.

In 2011, prime contractor CAE USA selected Barco to build the collimated display system for the fixed-base version of the MH-60S OFT as part of a major technology refresh of the simulator. The turnkey CD-2260 collimated display system includes five industry-leading SIM 7 Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) projectors, a back projection screen, an 11-foot radius film mirror, and all mechanical structures. The system was designed using Barco’s SimCAD tool and closed-loop design process which achieves the best collimating performance of any collimated display on the market.

Meeting a demanding specification
The distinctive collimating performance of the CD-2260 solution represents Barco’s ability to meet the industry’s most stringent performance requirements for helicopter or fixed-wing flight simulation.

“This achievement of ready-for-training for the MH-60 Sierra program is further proof that the market has fully embraced the CD-2260 system as the preferred collimating solution,” comments Mark Saturno, Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Barco’s Training and Simulation Division. “Harnessing vast expertise in projection, motion compatible mechanical structures, screens, and automatic alignment, Barco has succeeded in providing a turnkey system offering seamless integration, high reliability, and consistent quality.”

CAE is currently the prime contractor responsible for the design and manufacture of MH-60S OFTs and sensor operator trainers, as well as MH-60R tactical operational flight trainers (TOFTs), for the US Navy.  CAE will be integrating Barco CD-2260 display systems on a range of other US Navy MH-60S and MH-60R simulators.
