(Boston, MA)- On Sunday March 28, 2010 the 2nd Annual Cochon 555 event, the only national chef competition promoting heritage pigs and breed diversity, will be held at the Liberty Hotel.
A group of top Boston-area chefs will each prepare a heritage breed pig from head to toe for the event. In addition, five family-owned wineries will showcase their wines. Guests and professional judges will determine a winner based on utilization, presentation and overall best flavor. The winner will have the opportunity to compete with other national winning chefs at Grand Cochon, June 18-20, 2010.
Chef Jason Bond of the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro (a former competitor), has been asked by the Cochon555 team to be one of this year’s judges. Bond, who is known in Boston for his farm-to-table, locally-sourced approach to cooking, recently gained media attention for debuting a rare heritage pig breed in Boston (the Mangalitsa) at two sold out seatings in early March. “It was an honor to compete and it’s an honor to be asked to judge,” said Bond. This year’s Chef-Competitors will be: Jamie Bissonnette of Coppa, Matt Jennings of Farmstead, Barry Maiden of Hungry Mother, Joseph Margate of Clink and Tony Maws of Craigie on Main. When asked who Chef Bond was putting his money on he replied, “All involved are amazing Chefs and it will be truly interesting to see what creativity comes from the event.” Chef Bond can be seen as a judge at this year’s event, or you can get one-on-one by dining at the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro as seeing what all the culinary fuss is about.
