Ocean Grove, VIC/AUS (Saturday 11th November, 2017): The first day of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp presented by Wahu has provided some massive scores under perfect blue skies at Ocean Grove.

Ocean Grove provided perfect conditions with a small 2-3ft swell and light winds that allowed surfers the perfect canvas to show off their skills.

Local surfer Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads, VIC) impressed the judges and crowd in the Under 14 Girls opening round locking in the equal highest wave score of Day 1, an 8.67 (out of a possible 10).

Harrison was able to use her local knowledge to find the best waves and execute a series of big turns to get the score.

“Its cool to surf close to home. The waves were super fun and I found a couple of waves that ran off” said Harrison.

The Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps are awesome. There are heaps of prizes and games which makes it fun.

Willis Droomer (Jan Juc, VIC) 7.83 was a standout in the Under 12 Boys Division, claiming the top points in his Opening heat.

Droomer showed why he is considered one of the top junior surfers coming out of Victoria, linking together big turns and innovative maneuvers.

Issak Brown (Lake Munmorah, NSW) also impressed in the Under 12 Boys division with some smooth surfing and maturity beyond his years.

Other Divisions that were run include Under 14 Boys, Under 12 Girls, Under 10 Boys, Under 10 Girls and Under 8 Mixed.
