Book Launched to Help Children Understand When a Parent Has Cancer

There are many books that aim at helping adults deal with medical conditions, but not nearly as many are written strictly for children.

London, UK, November 10, 2009 (PressReleasePoint) -- One recent tool to help children understand cancer is ‘My Mom Has Cancer’ published by Ebooks4Kidz Ltd. The book was specifically commissioned when the founder of Ebooks4Kidz, Jeanette McLeod’s own world was touched by cancer. Jeanette’s best friend was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. “When I discovered that my best friend had cancer I wanted something positive to come out of it. I wanted to help young children to understand in an honest and child centric way what it can be like when a parent has cancer.”

The book is written from a child’s perspective and is narrated by Jeanette’s own son. It is intended as an opportunity to start a conversation with a young child about the impact of cancer treatment. The focus is on looking for the positives, the inner strength of the mother in her own fight against cancer and the recognition that a range of emotions will be felt by both the child and the mother.

The ebook is beautifully illustrated and animated. It also includes helpful tips for talking to a child about cancer.

All proceeds from the sale of the ebook for children will be donated to cancer research.
