Borusan Holdings in Egypt Enhances Web Access Control and Security with Blue Coat ProxySG 900 Appliances

Secure web gateway solution from Blue Coat Systems also delivers SSL filtering and advanced content caching features

Dubai, United Arab Emirates., February 18, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - Blue Coat Systems, Inc., a market leader in Web security and WAN optimization, has announced the successful installation of the Blue Coat ProxySG 900 appliance for Turkish conglomerate, Borusan Holdings. The Group's employees are now protected by Blue Coat's market leading secure web gateway appliance, which delivers visibility, control and security of internet activity with the addition benefit of vastly improved bandwidth performance thanks to patent-protected caching technologies.

Borusan Holdings had previously relied on a solution from a well-established vendor for their content filtering requirements, which proved capable in handling URL filtering and reporting, but it fell short in critical areas such as performance, efficiency and cost of ownership. “It was clear that with the growing number of users and the need for better content filtering and visibility we would need a technology upgrade. Blue Coat's strong references both globally and in Turkey, their status as a technology leader by Gartner and the successful implementation of the proof of concept (POC) at our office convinced us that they were the vendor of choice,” said Yasar Sarcan, Information Security Unit Manager at Borusan Holding.

Guided by Prolink, Blue Coat's channel partner in Turkey, Mr. Yasar and his team selected Blue Coat ProxySG appliance to secure and optimize their Web gateway for safe and reliable access. The task of administration was greatly simplified thanks to the solution's ability to deliver granular control over filtering, categorization and reporting. Borusan Holding's IT administrators can now set and enforce policies by operation, application or category to manage data loss, control applications on the corporate network and mitigate employee productivity risks. The Blue Coat ProxySG appliances also permit scanning and filtering of SSL traffic, which was unavailable in the previously deployed solution.

“We are very happy with our experience with Blue Coat and Prolink. The implementation was smooth and as we were pressed for time, we were even provided with demo units until the products shipped. The solution has been successfully deployed for over a month now and its performance has met and exceeded all our expectations,” added Mr. Yasar.

In addition to safer and better regulated Internet access, the Group has benefited from enhanced network performance, reduction in the number of network performance related complaints and elimination of the need for costly bandwidth upgrades. This has all been possible because of the ProxySG's patent-protected content caching, pipelining and compression technologies, which have enabled the caching of more than 75% of network traffic. The overall cost savings of the new solution, is further supplemented by the lower support renewal fees.

Mr. Yasar and his team now intend to further advance the ProxySG security coverage with the addition of the Blue Coat ProxyAV appliance. Working in tandem, the ProxyAV and ProxySG appliances offer protection from viruses, trojans, worms, malware and other forms of malicious content while maintaining superior performance and the lowest hardware footprint requirements.
