Take Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 8, 2014) — The breakdown in talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators, aimed at finding a long-lasting ceasefire, is a tragedy which will put many more lives at risk. One month of fighting has claimed more than 400 children’s lives and left utter destruction in Gaza. We urge both sides to return to the negotiation table and give a chance to the diplomatic route, which is the only way to solve this conflict.

"The toll of this past month's violence is outrageous: children and their families have paid the highest price," said Save the Children's David Hassell.

"Just as, over the past three days of the ceasefire, we started to reach some of the thousands of displaced people in urgent need of water, shelter and medical help, this return to hostilities is catastrophic. We appeal to both sides to extend the ceasefire and resume their talks for a long-term agreement that would bring fundamental changes for Israelis and Palestinians, including an end to the blockade of Gaza.

Civilians on both sides have a fundamental right to freedom and security, and to live normal lives in peace."

In the absence of functioning infrastructure in Gaza, both parties to this conflict have a clear duty to take all measures to ensure that the basic humanitarian needs of the civilian population are being met. Medical aid, water and food are urgently needed, while safe humanitarian access must be ensured.

Save the Children gives children in the United States and around the world a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We invest in childhood-- every day, in times of crisis and for our future. Follow us on and .
