A Bridge for Industrial Cooperation SEMI China Delegation to Japan

From business expansion, supply chain development, and market product analysis to promoting international industry cooperation, SEMI China is committed to providing a full range of services for domestic and foreign member companies, and has gained positive recognition in the industry. In mid-October, SEMI China’s delegation to Japan began another industry exchange tour to Japan, the fourth consecutive year a Chinese equipment and materials delegation has traveled to Japan. The SEMI China delegation visited eight companies ─ six in the equipment segment and two in the materials and accessories segment. The delegation briefed Japanese companies on the latest development trends in the Chinese semiconductor industry. The meetings built cooperation and goodwill for Sino-Japanese semiconductor equipment and materials enterprises.

“China's semiconductor industry is entering a fast development track. Of the four major semiconductor industry chain sectors including IC design, manufacturing, packaging & testing, equipment and materials, the first three have gained rapid and significant growth in the past few years. Equipment and materials are currently the only sectors which haven’t achieved rapid growth, that will be an industrial opportunity in the future,” said Lung Chu, president, SEMI China, during the tour in Japan. He also expressed that SEMI, as an industry association for the global electronics manufacturing supply chain, has devoted itself to promoting global industrial cooperation and communication, growth and prosperity. Chu stated that next year will be the 30th year for SEMI in China, and SEMI China is pleased to help domestic enterprises cooperate with Japanese counterparts for advanced products and technology.

Japan's semiconductor industry once produced 55 percent of the global chip output more than 30 years ago, but now Japan's chip output accounts for only less than 20 percent, and shrinking local market limits the development space of equipment and materials enterprises. However, China's semiconductor industry is facing unprecedented opportunities for development: focus of national strategies, huge market support, initial formation of domestic semiconductor industry chain, increasing growth of industrial capital, all of which offer “timing, geographical and human” advantages.

“The Chinese market has a huge demand for semiconductor equipment and materials, but the current domestic self-sufficiency is seriously inadequate, which is a market opportunity for Japanese semiconductor materials and equipment companies. As a global semiconductor industry association, SEMI’s mission is to promote an in-depth domestic and foreign inter-industry cooperation and achieve a “win-win” situation,” expressed Lung Chu, SEMI China president.

The SEMI China delegation concentrated on visiting Japanese semiconductor companies, hoping to continue to sow the seeds of cooperation and emphasizing a “win-win” approach to developing the China and Japan relationship.

SEMI China president Lung Chu admired Osaka Vacuum’s spirit and he expressed that, as a global industry association, SEMI also has the same industry spirit, hoping to help partners realize their dream.

The ion implantation device sector of NISSIN ION EQUIPMENT was set up in 1974 as a division of the parent company Nissin Motor Co., Ltd. After that, with the rapid growth of semiconductor and FPD market, the division was separated from the parent company and operated independently in the name of NISSION ION Equipment in 1990. The company has over 30 years of experience in ion injection technology and nearly 1,000 devices have been delivered.  Its headquarters and factory are located in Kuze Factory of Nissin Motor Co., Ltd., mainly responsible for development, design, production, maintenance and sale of various ion implantation devices. During this tour, SEMI China delegation visited its factory in Shiga Prefecture.


NISSIN ION Equipment is also a member of SEMI, and attends SEMICON China every year. SEMI China president Lung Chu said that SEMI, as a platform promoting global industry cooperation, is sparing no efforts in providing diversified and personalized service for the industry, the visit also hopes to further spur in-depth cooperation and communication between enterprises from China and Japan.


Kyoto Denkiki Co., Ltd.

Kyoto Denkiki Co., Ltd. was established in 1962, with operation cores of power electronics technology and optoelectronic technology. President Konishi Hideto acknowledged that Japan's domestic market demand is slowing, at present, the company’s many customers are from overseas markets. South Korea, China, Taiwan and other regions are all the important markets of the company. For this, SEMI China President Lung Chu said that SEMI was happy to be a communication bridge between industrial circles of China and Japan to promote cooperation between Chinese and Japanese industries.


TOWA Corporation was founded in 1979, headquartered in Kyoto. Taking ultra-precision mold processing technology as its core, TOWA’s technology and business covers ultra-precision machining technology, surface treatment technology, compressor design and manufacturing technology, EF processing technology, forming technology, mold design and manufacturing technology, as well as automation design and manufacturing technology.


SEMI China director Zhang Wenda presented an introduction to China’s semiconductor industry development trend at the venue.

In nearly 40 years, the company has provided a number of new technologies, including its “multi-link injection system” technology, which has become a de facto standard (industrial standard), leading to the first encapsulation technology revolution. At present, the sealing and cutting of semiconductor manufacturing process is the main business of TOWA. TOWA revealed that China's semiconductor industry is developing rapidly, and business in Chinese market is now 31 percent of its current business. It attaches great importance to its development in the Chinese market.


SEMI China was pleased to create this opportunity to build cooperation and promote Sino-Japanese business exchange. There is a strong desire for cooperation between the two countries business communities, and expectation that Chinese enterprises and other regional enterprises can jointly promote the prosperity and development of the semiconductor industry.
