Hospice solution enhanced to support National Quality Forum measures
ATLANTA – June 30, 2014 – Brightree, the leading provider of cloud-based clinical, billing and business management software solutions for the post-acute care industry, announced today that its Brightree Hospice solution is compliant with the new Hospice Item Set (HIS) data collection and associated electronic file submission and validation process in advance of the July 1, 2014, deadline.
“Hospice organizations are under increasing pressure to support the new hospice item set data collection and submission requirements in order to remain compliant and avoid revenue penalties,” said Steve Rogers, vice president product management at Brightree. “The enhancements to support this regulation will enable hospice organizations to electronically complete and submit the required admission and discharge documents to save time, streamline their workflow and prevent potential revenue penalties.”
Effective July 1, 2014, hospice organizations will be required to collect and report data related to seven National Quality Forum (NQF) measures. Questions related to pain screening, pain assessment, dyspnea screening, dyspnea treatment, patients on an opioid given a bowel regimen and patient treatment preferences and beliefs/values are included in the new measures. Additionally, the Hospice Quality Reporting Program requires hospice organizations to submit the data collected at two intervals: Admission (HIS Admission record) and Discharge (HIS Discharge).
How It Works
The Brightree Hospice solution, powered by Brightree’s CareTouch Logic™ engine that drives clinical processes, have been updated to include the mandatory questions and best practice workflows to support the new HIS data collection requirements. Clinicians can easily capture the necessary data electronically at the point of care, and the HIS document will be generated on admission and discharge. Once the document has been reviewed and approved, the solution will create the files that are required to be submitted to CMS. Tasks are generated to ensure timely and accurate completion of documents and submission of files. Next, hospice organizations can electronically submit the files to the CMS Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (QIES) Assessment Submission and Processing (ASAP) system. To validate the submission, customers will download validation files from the CMS Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reporting (CASPER) system and upload to the Brightree Hospice solution. The solution streamlines organization workflow by automatically processing and posting the validation file and alerting the hospice organization of any exceptions that need to be addressed to ensure accurate claim submission.
