COLUMBIA, Mo. – Lyon College goalkeeper Rob Brown turned back five shots in two different games this past week and allowed just one goal by 16th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College. For his effort Brown has been named the American Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, according to the league office.
Brown, a 5-10 sophomore from El Dorado, Ark. who played in 18 games a year ago, logging 1,632 minutes and allowing just 1.8 goals per contest, recorded five saves in the season opener on August 25, a 3-1 victory by Lyon (1-1-1) over Central Baptist College in Conway.
He then surrendered just one goal and picked up five more saves in a 1-0 setback to Georgia Gwinnett on Friday.
Brown currently ranks 27th nationally in total saves (10), 37th in saves per game (5.00) and 49th in goals against per game (1.00) after the opening week of the season.
He is a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Lyon will be on its home pitch on Saturday when the Scots open a four-game homestand by taking on 22nd-ranked Bethel University at Huser Field at 3 p.m.
