Panama’s Pride and Joy Brings Home a Total of Over $ 139,000 in Winnings as a Result of His Victory at This Important Weekly Poker Tournament.

Willemstad, Curaçao, March 12, 2010 – While the eyes of millions of viewers around the world turned to the red carpet outside of this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, many of the best professional and amateur poker players on the planet were focusing their attention on the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up, a weekly tournament that pits some of the game’s most talented youngsters and veterans alike against one another in an exciting battle of wits and courage. This important event features the participation of many of poker’s most remarkable personalities and attracts as many as 5,000 individual players each week.

Last Sunday, the winner of the Warm-up was the talented young Panamanian player, Bolivar “Ramux” Palacios. Palacios plays for Burro Poker, a new online poker site that specifically targets a Latin American and Hispanic audience. His victory came as no surprise to most of the tournament’s participants, as Palacios is quickly becoming one of the most well known names in Latin American poker, especially among those who make their living at the table. His online skills are apparently as sharp as are his abilities on the felt itself, and this week he managed to take home upwards of $139,000 in winnings after beating out nearly 5,000 of his fellow competitors in one of internet poker’s hottest online tournaments.

The total prize pool for last week’s Sunday Warm-up once again neared the million dollar mark at $996, 000. As a result of his victory, Bolivar Palacios went home with bragging rights as well as a hefty check for $139,163.73. The remaining winnings were divided amongst a lucky handful of the tournament’s highest ranking participants.

The event’s final round started out at a lightning quick pace, with each of the first three hands leading to eliminations. The first to go was Shaaarrrp, who took home $7,968 and finished in ninth place. Eighth place went to LCP, who received $12,450 in winnings. Those two were then followed shortly thereafter by gaffel, who took home seventh place and a cash prize totaling $22,410.

Hismoon , juda10, Ansgar2000 and Method 999 and placed second, third, fourth and fifth respectively, leaving Palacios, the chip leader and ultimate tournament winner, with the lion’s share of the winnings. Nevertheless, the final round was a real battle, with Palacios and Hismoon going neck and neck until “Ramux” managed to defeat his rival with pocket aces against a pre-flop King Jack whose shot at a straight ended with a five of hearts at the turn and a river card consisting of a queen of diamonds.

Bolivar Palacios caused quite a big stir last year, when he came in seventh at Punta Del Este, one of the most important events on the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). While that competition only earned him $37,000, his success at this week’s online Sunday Warm-up proved that internet poker tournaments can be as lucrative or, in some cases, even more profitable than live events. On Sunday, Ramux managed to take home more than three times the amount he won at Punta del Este, without even having to set foot outside his front door.

Palacios is one of a small handful of talented young Panamanians who have
recently sparked a new interest in the game of poker within their small, but well developed Central American nation. He went pro immediately after graduating from F.S.U. in 2003 and has since been taking the poker world by storm, coming in 7th at the Deep Stack Extravaganza last year and racking up over $40,000 in winnings at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) . Palacios currently represents Burro Poker en línea, one of Latin America and the Caribbean’s newest and fastest growing online poker companies.
