BWH Ranks Among Top 10 Hospitals in the Nation. Named to U.S. News and World Report Honor Roll for 19th Consecutive Year.

Boston, MA - Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is once again recognized as one of the nation's top hospitals, ranking eighth in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals. This year marks the 19th consecutive year that Brigham and Women's Hospital has appeared on the Honor Roll. The Best Hospitals Honor Roll highlights 17 medical centers that were ranked at or near the top in at least six specialties.

"Moving up three places to eighth in this year’s U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll is a testament to the extraordinary talent and enduring commitment of our nearly 15,000 clinical, research and administrative staff who are devoted every day to the pursuit of excellence in our mission to provide the best care possible for every patient," said Betsy Nabel MD, president of Brigham and Women's Hospital.

In this year's ranking of the nation's top hospitals, BWH placed in the top 10 in five categories: Cancer, Rheumatology, Gynecology, Nephrology and Diabetes and Endocrinology. BWH also placed in the nation's top 20 in Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Urology and Orthopedics.

U.S. News ranked hospitals in 16 specialties and analyzed data on nearly 5,000 medical centers to produce this year's rankings. Only 140 hospitals were ranked in one or more specialties and of those just 17 qualified to be placed on the 2011 Honor Roll. The rankings, now available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals, will be published in the magazine's August issue as part of it 2011-2012 Best Hospitals guide.
