(CINCINNATI, OH, 9/19/17) – The Cincinnati Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Cincinnati), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the racist and dehumanizing comments on Facebook made recently by a Franklin Township, Warren County, Ohio firefighter.

Franklin Township Firefighter Tyler Roysdon recently posted a racist comment on his Facebook page that devalued the lives of African-Americans and used a racially-derogatory term. He has since resigned from his job.

Hate-filled and bigoted remarks coming from a public servant whose job it is to serve all members of the community and to save lives violates the public trust and is totally unacceptable,” said Karen Dabdoub, CAIR-Cincinnati executive director.

She added: “This bigotry not only erodes confidence in the entire fire department, it also further breaks down community relations and civil society. We urge the Franklin Township trustees to take this incident very seriously and to do what’s necessary to restore the community’s confidence in the Franklin Township Fire Department and in the township government.”

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization.  Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
