Lunenburg, ON, July 19, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -- SAFE International is Canada's leader in high school self defense training. SAFE International has taught more than 100,000 high school students and is please to announce the launch of their new website, http://www.highschoolselfdefense.com. SAFE International™ is Canada's most popular high school personal safety awareness and self defense course for both boys and girls. They deliver a practical approach to personal safety which includes classroom instruction and physical instruction with an emphasis on detecting and defusing potentially dangerous situations. All of their instructors are certified through SAFE International and have a unique ability to reach the students in an effective and memorable manner.
SAFE International™ believes that Personal Self Defense Protection Education beginning at the High School level helps to develop and ensure that teenage students transition into our communities and workplaces as more confident and responsible individuals helping to strengthen our communities. Learning why and how to avoid confrontations may hopefully also translate to not being the originators of confrontation. Their courses for students can be viewed at http://www.highschoolselfdefense.com
The SAFE International curriculum is serious but it needs to be taught in a way that is both entertaining and educational or as Tony Robbins says, you need to "Edutain" to both capture their attention and keep it throughout the 4 to 5 hours of instruction. It is very common for students to greet the instructors with a feeling of boredom at the thought of sitting through 60 minutes of talk or techniques on how to avoid potentially dangerous situations. Within minutes the students quickly realize that this is not your average self defense course. SAFE doesn't give one-way instruction such as "Don't Do This or Don't Do That", but rather, it is an interactive roller coaster of potentially life saving information and at times comedy. Ask any teacher or student who has experienced one of the SAFE courses and they will virtually all tell you that the method in which it is taught is the key and biggest reason they call SAFE back year after year to instruct their students whether it be males or females. First, capture their attention and teach it in a way that really leaves a lasting impression, particularly in the case of a possible attack.
Over the past decade there has been an increase in school violence, not only student on student but also on teachers by students. Teachers are confronted with many potentially violent situations that were unheard of years ago. Due to more and more requests from teachers, SAFE International has now developed a course specifically designed for teachers (http://www.highschoolselfdefense.com) giving them the skills to not only deal with potentially violent students verbally but also physically. Recent U.S. data * on violent crime shows that 7 percent (10 percent in urban schools) of teachers in 2003 were subject to threats of injury by students. Many schools have Safe School policies which are valuable and required, but violence can happen in an instant and there is no substitute for one having the ability and skill to handle any situation that may occur at a moment's notice.
For years, schools have offered Anti-Bullying programs, but now with the internet and all its benefits, there is a negative side, Cyber Bullying, another form of bullying which cannot be ignored. Cyber bullying is quite often an extension of traditional bullying and can take many forms including:
Sending texts or emails that are hurtful, hateful, harassing, or threatening physical harm.
Spreading rumours about someone in hopes to embarrass or cause mental and perhaps physical harm.
Sending personal or embarrassing information including pictures of others, all with the intention of intimidating, frightening, ridiculing, or harming someone else.
Pretending to be someone else with the intention of deceptive harm.
SAFE International is pleased to announce the launch of their NEW Cyber Bullying Prevention Program for students, grades 7 to 10. http://www.highschoolselfdefense.com
SAFE International's founder has recently started the Self Defense Canada Blog http://www.selfdefensecanada.info and maintains relevant information on crime statistics, defensive methods and self defense strategies that every citizen can employ.
