KCI Communications Infrastructure (KCI-CI), an engineer-contractor firm in the wire line and wireless industries, welcomed Judd Carothers to our Irving, Texas office, as a corporate practice leader. He is charged with overseeing the Solutions Practice and championing the firm’s D-BOM initiative where KCI will design, build, own and maintain communications infrastructure as a common carrier and alternative access provider.

Carothers comes to KCI with over 17 years of industry experience focused on physical and optical network design, implementation and operations. He is well versed in building access procurement, contract negotiations and regulatory requirements of owning and operating networks in the public right-of-way. Prior to joining KCI, Carothers was a member of FiberLight LLC’s executive team, responsible for their Network Operations, Engineering Network Operations Center (NOC), Service Delivery Group and Sales Engineering Department.

“Our goal for the Solutions Practice, under Judd’s leadership, is to offer clients the ability to utilize KCI for the management and growth of their networks all under one umbrella,” said Executive Vice President Christopher Griffith, PE, CCM. “Where in the past we have focused more on design and construction, Judd’s expertise and experience will allow us to offer network optimization, operations oversight and even bring the potential of network ownership to the firm.”

Carothers earned a bachelor’s degree in literature with a minor in economics from South West Texas State in 1996. Starting in May, he will be sitting on the Aledo Independent School District Educational Advisory Board.

KCI is an engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the U.S. and beyond. With revenues of approximately $146 million in 2012, KCI is ranked 81 on the Engineering News-Record's list of the top 500 engineering firms in the country. Roughly 1,000 KCI employee owners provide environmental, transportation, telecommunications, construction, facilities, and land development services from more than 20 locations.
