Central Baptist to Make First-Ever Trip to NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (Bracket   Ticket Information) Central Baptist Mustangs men's basketball team will be making its first-ever trip to the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament next week in Kansas City, Mo. The Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 14th, with the championship game on Tuesday, March 20th.

"What a great accomplishment for our team," said Central Baptist head coach Chris Wright." I am so incredibly happy for our guys and for everyone in our program. So many people told me we couldn't do this here and we did it in our first season."

The Mustangs earned one of four 6-seeds in the tournament with a 21-8 record, earned the No. 2-seed in the AMC tournament and a trip to the AMC Tournament Semifinals. Central Baptist was ranked No. 24 in the final NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Top-25 Coaches' Poll.

Da'Jon Streeter leads the team with a 17.6 points per game average. Ashford Golden (16.0), Victor Dukes (15.0) and Percell Washington (14.3) are averaging in double-digits for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs averaged 82.5 points per game and shot 47.1-percent (843-of-1,788) from the field and 34.8-percent (201-of-577) from behind the 3-point line.

Defensively, Central Baptist held opponents to 73.4 points per game and 44.3-percent shooting from the field.

Georgetown Tigers enter the tournament with a record of 25-6. The Tigers were the No. 2-seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament and fell to eventual tournament championship, Lindsey Wilson, in the championship game. The Tigers are making its 37th overall NAIA Tournament performance and its 27-straight appearance.

Shadell Millinghaus (21.1) Troy Steward (20) Quan Poindexter (14.8) and Trent Gilbert (10.1) lead the team in points per game. The Tigers are scoring 93.9 points per game and shooting 49.1-percent from the field.

This is the first meeting between the schools.   

 "Today [Monday] is a really special day, because so many people played a huge role in it," said Wright. "This doesn't happen without the four years of work Coach Wes Sullivan put into the program. He brought them so far in his time here and I am really thankful for him. This also doesn't happen without the support of our Athletic Director Lyle Middleton and VP for Enrollment Management Ryan Johnson."

Central Baptist will take on 3-seeded Georgetown on Wednesday, March 14th at 1:15 p.m.

The Mustangs join Columbia and Harris-Stowe as AMC school's to qualify for the tournament.
